The burnout is very real. I explain more in the actual post, which by the way this post feels like it’s kind of all over the place? I am sorry about that friends, the only thing my brain could fully focus on whilst writing this post seems to be Ateez and Stray Kids… If you’ve been curious about what I’ve been up to these past 3 months, what I’ve watched, read and life updates. Then it’s all here in this post! The hiatus update is at the very end if you’re just here for that 😉
Old Blog Posts You May Like
Whilst I’m on hiatus, you can find some of my old posts here that I adore and that you may have missed or haven’t seen before if you’re new to my blog.
This section is a space for me to share anything I’ve been busy working. Either directly relating to the blog or things which have a blog/bookish energy about them.
New Graphics: Hehe so I actually have been doodling out some graphic ideas, I’ve not actually started working properly on anything. Just got a Pinterest board for inspo and I’m letting my brain rest. I’ll doodle anything that comes to mind then get back to what i was doing.
Table Of Contents: I beg of you, if any of you have any posts or links or know how the devil to get a table of contents into a blog post. That’s on Free WP then DM me or let me know in the comments, because each time I try to look into this I get a headache and walk out. That said I am planning on updating my old posts (starting with the 25 posts I marked as priority) with table of contents to help people navigate my posts better.
Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa
I finally read this book in May, suffice to say I will die for Yumeko and Tatsumi. I am also getting ready to shriek at Soph and Jayati for getting me to read a series that has a sad ending. I don’t know what’s gonna happen but we’re mostly blaming Soph here.
If you’re after enemies to lovers, grumpy with sunshine and a book that has fabulous worldbuilding. Definitely recommend you give Shadow of the Fox a go.
I finally updated my yearly playlist on YouTube and let me tell you…it’s literally made up of Soph’s recommendations. As in mostly KPop, below are some of my fav songs from the past 3 months in no particular order.
Taylor dropping the rerecorded version for Fearless really through me down memory lane. I think my favourite song from the Fearless album would have to be The Way I loved Look that chorus hits me in the feels every time.
I do love all of the vault songs from the rerecorded album, however That’s When is probably a top fav alongside Mr Perfectly Fine.
Ateez realeased new music back in March, Fireworks being the title track from the album. I am still obsessed with it eeep.
I was obsessed with HAN’s most recent SKZ record Wish You Back, that boy constantly leaves me in awe of what he’s able to do creative wise. Also this song made me want to watch the movie Your Name, as the movie was HAN’s inspiration for if it had ended sadly.
On the rare occasion I manage to catch one of Chan’s Vlives, I sometimes discover new songs. I believe this song was from the 3racha vlive he did with Han and Changbin and they were playing songs the members of Stray Kids had recommended. Lovers in the night by Seori was one of them and I just ended up really liking it.
Meet the most recent group Soph is trying to shove at me. I am still resisting for now however this version of Night Air they did, I have a thing for guitars and just acoustic songs ok. This song quite literally shoved me closer to maybe falling for them. It’s a beautiful song though and the groups concept is super cool hehe.
P!NK’s music feels the same as Taylor’s music to me, it’s like coming home. I love P!NK’s songs and I just ugh, this new song is everything.
Sharing The Love
Whilst I blog hop I come across some truly wonderful posts, I obviously can’t shout out every single post I read, no matter how much I’d like to. Below is a compilation of some of my favourite posts, I’ve read in the last 3 months. Hopefully you can find something that piques your interest!
Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books always delivers with wonderful posts that set out to make out blogging lives easier. 5 Things You Need To Know Before Starting A Book Blog and How To Write A Blog Post People Will Read are must reads for any book blogger in my opinion! If you’re thinking about going self hosted then I’d suggest checking out How To Self Host Your Book Blog: Sharing My Exciting (And Stressful) Experience.
Sumedha @ The Wordy Habitat has a treasure trove of posts to explore on her blog, however these two posts are definitely worth a read if you’re after some help with formatting/readabilty! 10 Ways To Format Book Reviews For Your Blog is perfect for everyone who writes book reviews, whilst How To Make Your Blog Posts More Readable is such a helpful post to improve the quality of your posts.
Kal @ Reader Voracious comes out with some of my favourite guides and resources of all time. If you’re ever stuck, Kal’s likely done a post on it at some point. I found Evergreen Content and Book Bloggers | SEO Basics and How To Refresh Evergreen Content For Book Bloggers | SEO Basic to be super helpful. It definitely gave me food for thought on updating old blog posts vs deleting. If you’ve not heard of Readerly then do check out Kal’s guide on Readerly: What We Know About This New Independent Alternative To Goodreads.
Kate @ Your Tita Kate has a wonderful post if you’re struggling with those pesky reviews, definitely recommend you check it out to see her tips for How To Write A Kick-Ass Book Review.
Jayati @ It’s Just A Coffee Addicted Bibliophile shares 4 Things That Changed Because Of Being A Book Blogger – adored this post so much as it highlights how much book blogging changes us all!
Charvi @ Not Just Fiction discusses blogging schedules, so if you’re curious about whether you should follow one check out Charvi’s post I Don’t Follow A Tight Blogging Schedule And Maybe You Shouldn’t Either.
Marie @ Drizzle and Hurricane Books talks about her Thoughts After A Year On Bookstagram which you should all go read. As someone who has also struggled with bookstagram I really resonated with this post. She also posted the 2nd instalment to her Book Bloggers feature where she brings in various book bloggers to talk about various topics! Highly encourage y’all to give Book Bloggers Talk #2: Why Book Blogs Are An Asset Today a read.
Kal @ Reader Voracious talks about Why I Love Morally Gray Characters as well as My Love Hate Relationship With Book Boxes. I loved both of these discussions, morally grey characters are awesome and I too have a love hate relationship with book boxes.
Sophia @ Bookwyrming Thoughts reviewed Bias by Lucy Gold which sounds like the perfect read for anyone into K-Pop who is after a light read. Soph also reviewed The Last Fallen Star by Graci Kim which sounds like such a fun middle grade book!
May @ Forever and Everly compiled an excellent list of books recs 30 Personalized Book Recommendations (& Upcoming Releases) PT1: Asian Edition.
Charvi @ Not Just Fiction literally made me the happiest bean with these two rec posts, two of my favourites things are astrology and tea. Anyway Asian Book Recommendations For Zodiac Signs is an excellent post, I would suggest looking at not just your sun sign but your moon and rising too! Just you know…to get more recs out of it hehe. Then we have Recommending Books As Per Your Tea Preferences which is such a fun post!
Kal @ Reader Voracious reviews Dustborn by Erin Bowman which is perfect for anyone into dystopian/post-apocalyptic books!
Sumedha @ The Wordy Habitat reviewed You’ve Reached Sam by Dustin Thao and I am now not ready for this book. I was eyeing it for the gorgeous cover but I wasn’t aware of it’s synopsis *sobs*. Sumedha’s also got you covered if you’re looking for some KDrama’s to watch as she reviewed A Love So Beautiful and My First Love.
Kate @ Your Tita Kate shares 7 Underrated Books By Asian Authors and 6 Asian Adult Fantasy Books To Check Out. If you’re after Adult Fantasy books then I would definitely recommend checking out Kate’s post!
Jayati @ It’s Just A Coffee Addicted Bibliophile celebrated her blogversary with a fun Q&A and she got cupcakes! Definitely go check out My 3rd Blogversary A Q&A and I Talk about my blogging journey to learn more about Jayati and her blog!
Tasya @ The Literary Huntress shared Favourite K-pop Songs From Artists I Stan a post full of songs to check out if you’re into K-Pop or are just looking for more K-Pop recs!
I’ll be sharing what I’ve watched in this section, from YouTube videos to any dramas to anime and more. I will include links to things where possible though!
Kingdom: Legendary War
Kingdom is basically a show with 6 KPop groups in, who are competing for ‘the crown’. I’m here because as I mention later on in this post, Ateez and Stray Kids took part in this show. Anyway whilst I personally think you should watch all the performances, I’m including the Mayfly performances here because I adored the chemistry between Ateez x Stray Kids x BTOB and I’m well on my way to becoming a Melody at this point.
Your Lie In April
Ok I went into this anime knowing it was an emotional one but gosh darnit I wasn’t expecting it to hit me in the feels from the get go. I’m halfway through so I’m hoping to finish watching this in June. Adore it so far though, love the characters and the theme song!
Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok-joo
My heart is not ok right now. This KDrama was binge watched over 3 days, which for me is pretty good like I somehow managed to pace myself with this one. 16 episodes at 1hr long each over 3 days, not too bad considering I was tempted to just binge it in 2 days.
I’m not sure I can find the words to express how much I loved this show. If you’re looking for something to binge watch, highly recommend this show. Yes it’s 1hr eps but you will be left craving for more every damn time. I watched one episode with grandma too (ahem not me pushing the KPop and drama agenda on my grandma) and she enjoyed it hehe, it made her laugh so you know. 10/10 go watch, all the episodes are available on Viki!
2021 has been…quite a year already. Mostly I just feel very burned out in all areas of my life. My reading has been at it’s all time low this year, I really just don’t have the energy to concentrate on reading, which is ok. I’d rather not read than force myself to read and not enjoy a book I otherwise would have. As you can likely tell from this wrap up watching YouTube and various shows has been my life these last 3 months. As well as playing Genshin Impact, which I absolutely adore. I may not be able to focus on reading as much as I’d like but playing this game has been a nice escape.
I don’t really remember much of March. Looking at my journal though the moments to remember include me baking sweet potato brownies which were really nice along with cherry shortbread. Oh I also put out a tweet and insta story about tarot readings. I am still slowly working my way through them, so it’s been really nice to have that to fall back to when I’m able to put my energy somewhere. Also that fact I was expecting 0 interest and got a fair few responses made me super happy!
One of my favourite things from April has to be this weekly spread. I was alternating between using washi tape and drawing a tulip as my April theme was tulips. However I just really adore this spread, the washi tape the quote and the moon phases.
I started watching Your Lie In April and I am just a puddle. These characters need wrapping in bubble wrap and I want to protecc them from everything. Also I felt suitably old when I realised they are 14…ahem moving on.
Sharing another food pic, although I did not bake any of these lovely treats. My mum baked blackberry cake, cheese scones and brownies in April and yes they were very nice. Cheese scones are one of my favourite things too hehe.
Kingdom Legendary War started this month as well so erm my month was mostly me looking forward to Thursdays as that’s when it aired. Although I was never able to watch it during the airing as I was at work. It was nice coming back home and having performances to watch hehe. I think my favourite episode is the Sports Day one because all the groups are having fun, interacting and yes. I love it.
May has treated me well in terms of content to consume. I am going to just combust here and say that in Kingdom Legendary War there was a round called ‘No Limit’ and the 6 groups got put into two teams. Thank you Ateez for picking Stray Kids and BTOB to be in your team. Eeep cause omg Mayfly certainly can fly and I adore seeing my two ults be together. Also I am slowly falling for BTOB too. I was of course excited for the dance and rap stages of the no limit round but I wasn’t sure how I’d feel for the vocal round. Ahem…I was left speechless thanks to Jongho, Seungmin and Eungkwang like holy damn was that a legendary performance. (I got my dad to watch it purely for him to appreciate the vocals ok, like my jaw dropped and I was smiling whilst watching them cover Love Poem)
I mentioned earlier that I watched Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo this month and it was amazing. Adored it! I’m not sure which drama I’ll start next, possibly Extraordinary You since the episodes are 30 minutes.
Oh I preordered The Ones We’re Meant To Find by Joan He back in March and it arrived this month. If you follow me on instagram you’ve likely already seen this as it was in my stories. Anyway I also bought erm 7 books this month so Summer’s wrap up is going to be me wondering why I’m buried under all these painful books. (spoiler its because all my friends shove painful books at me to read)
How’d My Spring Plans Go?
- ❌Assignments For Days: Eh kinda? I’ve been struggling with finding the motivation for doing assignments, mostly I’d like to yeet Unit 6 into the trash.
- ✔️Workouts & Flexibility: I’m proud of myself for this one. I may not have been doing it daily but that’s ok. I averaged at doing workouts and flexibility stretches 3-4 times a week. Sometimes less and sometimes more. The thing I’m proud of though is my back flexibility. I don’t have before and after photos but I’ll do my best to explain. When I first started these stretches, I had ZERO flexibility in my back. Like the ) bracket had more flexibility than my back when I first started. Now I’ve actually been able to do the knee bridge pose somewhat properly (still working on my stamina) and I’m just so proud of me and my body. Anyway, reminder that a little goes a long a way. It’s ok if you don’t work out or do stretches for hours each day. Sometimes all it needs is half an hour every few days and gradually you will notice improvements.
- ❌Yoga: Yeah this didn’t happen. I seem to prefer stretches for flexibility than yoga but I think that’s largely due to me not finding someone I gel with on YouTube for yoga yet.
- ❌Reading = My Priority: Yeah this screamed ambitious and I flopped with it. I managed to get some reading in but not a whole lot. Still I’m happy I read a book and am in the midst of another. Small wins.
Plans For Summer
- Workout & Stretch Consistently: In true human fashion I dropped the ball with this goal midway through the Spring quarter. I want to aim to workout and stretch 3-5 times a week if possible. This is of course subject to my mental health but I know that those K-Pop workouts really helped raise my mood and the stretches too.
- Complete 2 Assignments: Hmmm I’d like to have completed up to Unit 9 by the end of August. Ideally further but I’ll be happy to be at Unit 9 to be honest.
- Korean: I want to have reviewed Unit 1 Lessons 1 – 4 and also get back on with doing Memrise for vocab purposes. I’m not really planning on making any huge leaps of progress with Korean over Summer, I just want to retain what I know and not to lose anything if possible.
I had hoped to be back to posting other content to the blog by around June time. However it’s just not going to happen, my mental health is like a rollercoaster, my reading is non-existent and I have no energy to create fun posts. I have been working on them on and off since the start of the year when I feel up to it though.
I’ll be on an indefinite hiatus for the foreseeable future. At this point in time I’m planning more in terms of putting content out in 2022. You will still see these quarterly brew posts and I may cobble together a post for my blogoversary and birthday later on in the year. Please don’t expect much of anything to be happening though on my blog other than these posts, which act as a nice way to remind y’all that I am alive and here’s what chaos I’ve been causing 😉
If you miss me then you can find me on my Instagram, Twitter, Discord and Storygraph for books I’m reading. I’ve stopped using Goodreads at this point. I will do my best to keep up with blog hopping because it’s honestly a nice way to relax. Anyway thank you for being here even when I’m on a hiatus and to all the new followers…hi, hello *waves* I would recommend checking out some of my older blog posts if you haven’t already.
I seriously miss engaging with this community so much, so feel free to catch me up on your lives! What have you been reading, how’s the last few months been for you? Sending you all so much love and thank you for sticking around 💜
