2020 Autumn Brew: Turning 20, Hitting 1k Followers & More!

Autumn has come and gone. Well mostly gone, technically Winter doesn’t arrive until December 21st but for ease of me posting seasonal wrap ups. We’re pretending the season ends at the end of a month. I can’t believe Autumn has passed already, more importantly I’m 20 now >.> How did this happen? I’m no longer a teenager and I don’t know whether to be happy or sad about this. Anyway, get ready as I recap Autumn!

PSA: Before we get into this post, I’d like to say that these seasonal wrap ups are now a thing. I don’t read enough to warrant needing a monthly wrap up and seasonal wrap ups feel more me. That said it’s potentially a problem with the amount of music I want to chuck at you all. Sending you all good vibes, let’s get into this wrap up!

Working On?

This section is a space for me to share anything I’ve been busy working. Either directly relating to the blog or things which have a blog/bookish energy about them.

Weekly Lives: Getting a new phone for my birthday basically means if you can’t find me, 9/10 I’m lurking on instagram. It’s also meant I’ve been able to start going live, which wasn’t possible before due to my old phone. My lives typically consist of me blog hopping, chatting, listening to music and keeping y’all company. I’ll be working on figuring out how to spruce up the livestreams though, so if you have any ideas please feel free to let me know! That being said if you wanna catch a live, I tend to go live on Sunday’s at 2pm GMT. If you’re unsure though, check my highlights, I’ve saved my monthly live schedule for ease. Yep so, the lives aren’t saved either, I do think if I get a new stand at some point I can go live whilst I do bujo spreads…or even art? That could be fun.

Content Consumed

Reading

I’ve really struggled these last few months just to pick up a book, so I’ve not really read a whole lot, it hurts my soul a lot. But I know eventually I’ll get back to reading more at some point, for now I’m content to just savour the books I’m reading.

As Kismet Would Have It by Sandhya Menon

Moonology: Working With The Magic of Lunar Cycles by Yasmin Boland

Damned Souls and a Sangria by Annette Marie

The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco (currently reading)

Harley in the Sky by Akemi Dawn Bowman (currently reading)

Music

The past 3 months have been a whirlwind to be honest, October marks a year of being an Atiny and loving K-Pop. It also marked 2 years of Ateez and I’m just gonna sob. I can’t believe it’s been a year already.

September gave us Stray Kids’ first repackaged album, which I adore, if I could I’d share every single song off it. I also discovered a new co-ed group in that month as well as rediscovering a K-Band!

October I was in my indie/folk/country groove, mostly listening to playlists with this type of music and I did find some songs off the playlists which I liked. Stray Kids also dropped their Japanese mini album sksksk no I was not fine. Anyway I highly suggest watching the MV to All In, I love the choreography for that song.

November seemed to be me taking a trip down memory lane with the genre as I discovered a new band which gives me the early 10’s punk rock vibes. For anyone who doesn’t know, I am a big fan of punk rock, rock and country music as well as K-Pop now.

Sharing The Love

Whilst I blog hop I come across some truly wonderful posts, I obviously can’t shout out every single post I read, no matter how much I’d like to. Below is a compilation of some of my favourite posts, I’ve read in the last 3 months. Hopefully you can find something that piques your interest!

Tiffany @ Read By Tiffany shared Everything You Need To Know Before Reading The Poppy War by R F Kuang – if like me you haven’t picked up this trilogy then I’d highly encourage you read Tiffany’s post first so you can at least get some basic knowledge (if you don’t have any) in the history this trilogy draws from.

Rhi @ Marshmallow Harmonies gives us a wonderful list of 28 Books To Read With Bisexual Rep

Fadwa @ Word Wonders talked about BookTube vs Book Blogging sharing their pros, cons and thoughts

Caitlin @ Caitlin Althea shared some super helpful tips on How To Get People To Follow Your Blog! as well as another post, which is amazing where she’s Reacting To Book Twitter’s Unpopular Opinions (Part 2)

CW @ The Quiet Pond shared her experiences and struggles with Reading Romance While Demisexual and I just…this post resonated with me a lot. Huge love to CW for choosing to share this post with us all. CW also shared an insightful post for anyone looking at revamping their blog: How She Revamped The Quiet Pond (and Her Tips For Your Next Blog Revamp)

Marie @ Drizzle & Hurricane Books always delivers thought provoking and import discussions, her posts are wonderful and some of my favourites. Anyway her post on Why She Believes Book Bloggers Should Get Paid is super important, I also share her view on that. Marie also celebrated her blogoversary with 6 Years of Blogging: a look back and forward

Shealea @ Shut Up, Shealea has so many wonderful posts, I managed to narrow it down to 3 that I’d like to share with you all! First up is K-Pop Romance Novels To Make Your Fandom Heart Flutter and yes I put like all of these onto my TBR. Then we have 6 Important Questions To Ask Before Writing A Blog Post and then her most recent post which is Diverse Books 101: Starter Recommendations For Diversifying Your Bookshelf

Charvi @ Not Just Fiction has some wonderful, insightful posts on her blog however the one I’d like to highlight is Can Buying Books Make You Happy? I love it when Charvi combines psychology with books, it makes for a wonderful read.

Lauren @ Northern Plunder wrote an important post for all us book bloggers (and anyone who needs to self promo to be honest) which is 6 Ways To Improve Self-Promotion

Kal @ Reader Voracious always posts such informative and helpful posts, the post I want to highlight is no exception, if you (like so many of us) are tired with Goodreads. Then there’s good news for you: All About Storygraph – a better goodreads finally! Kal breaks down this new alternative really well, I for one cannot wait until I fully make the switch over to Storygraph.

Watched

Watching YouTube is my version of watching TV these days, I couldn’t possibly include every video I watch over 3 months, however I’ll link to a few I want to highlight!

Aileen’s channel Lavendaire has been one of the sources of inspiration in the last 3 years. Her content is motivational, uplifting and I always enjoy the videos I watch from her. This particular video is about her 20’s, recapping them and I think the video delivers a really important message: it’s ok to be lost, you’ll find yourself along the way.

Jade’s channel I discovered maybe early in 2019? I stumbled across it whilst looking for travel vlogs and then I just stayed for her personality, for her content. It’s uplifting, it’s real and I always enjoy her videos. If anyone is looking for any study tips or advice, highly recommend her older videos, wish I’d had them when I was in school to be honest. The video I shared is one of her recent ones, which I loved, it’s long but it’s nice.

Life Updates

I had originally done a wrap up post for September, however I plan on deleting it so I’ll also recap Sept once more in this section. The past 3 months have honestly become a blur, I’m just really struggling with coming to terms with the fact I turned 20 and it’s almost the end of 2020.

September

This was the month I finally got round to tidying my desk and I ate a lot of noodles. September the weather was still pretty warm and it was still light fairly late, so I could just sit outside and eat noodles late at night. Honestly, those are some of my favourite memories. I can’t wait for Spring so I can resume eating outside, it’s relaxing and a great way for me to become more present. Went back to work this month, which has been both nice and overwhelming.

October

I genuinely do not remember what I did in October. I had two weeks off work but that’s due to half terms and I spent most of them working coursework. Oh wait of course October happened to be the month I got back into astrology, the moon and tarot and actively studying things once more. I watched a lot of Stray Kids videos this month, not surprising since they always lift my spirits. I think perhaps my favourite thing to come out of this month, was my new weekly layout in the bullet journal. I began testing out new layout this month and I love how the weekly spreads looked for this month!

My blog hit 1,000 follows this month and I am just so baffled, that so many of you follow my blog? I feel so blessed that you all care about my content and thoughts, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. I never thought I’d hit 1K after only blogging for 3 years. I’ve never been overly bothered about stats and do my best to not get caught up in them. However this milestone is definitely one I care about and am just so grateful for 🥺

November

I turned 20. The times it sinks in, is when I listen to songs I used to love and it’s like 7 years ago. I just stare at the screen unable to process that 2013 was 7 years ago. Seriously, time is wild and I’d love to know how it works. On the side is a photo of the birthday cake my mum made, it was yummy, there was homemade gooseberry jam in it as well 😋

I got a new phone! This may not seem like a huge thing but I’ve been using an old touch screen phone for the last 3 years and it ran on Android 3.5. My new phone has given me the ability to become more active on social media as well as plan out things like weekly lives on Instagram. It also meant I could video call my best friend for the first time ever! I may be a Gen Z but I’m such a boomer with tech xD

Anyway me and my best friend haven’t been able to see each other in months, I don’t remember the last time we physically saw each other but video calling has helped. Technology is a blessing in that sense, giving us all the ability to still connect to the people we care about. I bought books this month as well as my second tarot deck, which arrived and it’s stunning. I spent so long cooing over the cards and designs, I’m so glad I decided to buy it.

In October I began testing out a new weekly layout style, where I include the daily moon phases as well have a priorities section. It’s been working really well for me so far! I’m still making tweaks to it with each week, until I find that perfect balance that every element works for me. Anyway, here’s a look at one of my November spreads. The December weekly layouts are slightly different, the more I use them, the more I learn what’s working and what needs changing up.

November has been a month of losing myself to feeling overwhelmed, struggling to get back on top of things and attempting to be more mindful of where I put my energy. It’s why I’ve been pretty inactive on the blog, I have posts to write but no energy and I won’t force myself to write for the sake of content.

Plans For Winter

I’ve got no real concrete plans for December through February as of yet. Other than shooting my shot at applying for an internship; getting through the last month of 2020; working on myself and my own journey as well as just trying my hardest to cut myself some slack. I may get back into art in Winter, I really miss working on a drawing and I won’t improve if I keep daydreaming about it.

  • Continue Studying Korean: I’ve been using howtostudykorean.com alongside their videos and courses on Memrise to learn Korean. I would highly recommend this site too, its free and Duolingo is just useless for Korean basically. It skips so many of the basics, which you need to know in order to understand the language and why it’s formed the way it is.
  • Complete More Assignments: Don’t really talk much about this but I’m taking a Teaching Assistant course online and uhm it’s a lot. I just know that future Clo will thank me for doing this because when I become qualified I’m a step closer to being able to fulfil one of my dream careers.
  • Spend More Time With My Cards, Journaling etc: I hope to continue bonding with my tarot decks and moonology deck. Sometimes I pull cards and wait a few days before I breakdown things, which I feel like you shouldn’t really do but sometimes I’m just like no let’s wait until the moon is in a water sign *rolls around* Anyway, I also want to spend more time digging into my birth chart, learning more on astrology. Hopefully one day I’ll be confident to do readings for other people? Maybe…
  • Figure Out Where I Want To Go With My Instagram: I’ve been struggling with posting on there, just because I’m not really reading and I don’t want to just keep posting books I’ve not read. So the last few posts have been bullet journal posts, I’m half tempted to archive everything on there and start over? I don’t know though, I need to sit and spend some time seriously thinking what I want to put out on there.

Whew…that was a lot. How’s your November been? How’s your autumn been? Do you have any plans for Winter? Books you’d like to read before 2021 rolls on in? Sending you all so much love, positive energy and make sure to let me know all your answers, thoughts and musings in the comments!

  1. The biggest parts of this post that I relate to are ones relating to content—both blog and Instagram. You already know my current status on blog. IG is one that I seem to constantly struggle with. I’ve started over multiple times, aiming to post more than just bookish content, but I always fall back on books because I feel left out from the community and want to be in it. And I end up hating that my content is always bookish. It especially hit me hard in the last couple months, where I barely posted. I’m trying to post bullet journal content for now because the thought of posting bookish content makes me tired. Let’s see what else I manage to post 😅 Here’s to both of us figuring out what we want to do on IG ✊🏼

Thanks for including 2 of my posts with such kind words 💜💜

    • Ugh yes I feel that in my bones with instagram, I definitely think I’ll be moving away from “just” posting bookish content because a) I just don’t read enough and b) I really want to post other things that I love but I also feel bad for even thinking about it cause I want to post books…

I definitely think I’ll end up including bujo posts, possibly nature ones too and tarot sksksk. Another struggle I have is wanting to keep a theme of nature for my feed but it’s now winter, which makes it rather difficult to find flowers which are still out :/

Of course! I adore your posts so much 💜

  3. I love the idea of seasonal wraps, it seems a nice way to recap everything when reading is low in a less stressful way. Glad it’s working for you! and YAY FOR A NEW PHONE BRINGING YOU CLOSER TO THE DECADE! Happy belated birthday darling, and I love you forever. Thanks for linking my post about storygraph, too!
